About this destination

Morrocoy National Park, on the coast of Falcón state, is one of Venezuela's most popular and accessible beach destinations. Declared a national park in 1974, it covers some 32,090 hectares of mangroves, coral reefs, white sand cays, and turquoise Caribbean waters. Access is from Tucacas or Chichiriviche, from where boats depart to the cays. The most visited are Cayo Sombrero, Cayo Borracho, Playuela, Paiclás, Cayo Muerto, and Cayo Peraza. Each offers white sand beaches, calm waters ideal for families, and marine life for snorkeling and diving. The mangroves are a haven for birds and can be explored by kayak. Morrocoy is ideal for day trips from Caracas (about 4 hours by road), Valencia, or Barquisimeto, or as a weekend destination. Local cuisine in Tucacas and Chichiriviche features fresh fish and seafood.
