About this destination

The Guayana region in southern Venezuela covers much of Bolívar state and is the natural gateway to Canaima National Park, the Gran Sabana, and Angel Falls. It is an area of mighty rivers such as the Orinoco and Caroní, major hydroelectric reservoirs, and cities like Ciudad Guayana (Puerto Ordaz and San Félix). From Guayana, flights and overland routes are organized to Canaima, the Gran Sabana, and the tepuis; it is also a base for travelers combining their visit with the Orinoco Delta. The landscape alternates between tropical rainforest, savannas, table mountains, and large reservoirs such as Guri. Local cuisine includes river fish, casabe, sancocho, and typical Guayana dishes.
